If we indeed decide to move away from Industrialized dairy e.g. in India, we will automatically land up consuming far less dairy. Energy intensive dairy farming provides the quantity of milk that we see today. Same argument holds for meat as well. So even while I am not a purist, there is merit in consuming the right quantities and limiting the quantity of meat and dairy in our diet to have favorable impact on climate. The best decisions are made when one conducts Life Cycle Analysis, however it is not feasible to do that every time and hence general guidelines for popular use are required.
