My City My Responsibility - Indian food choices (myths and facts) in a changing Climate!

Meeting new people is always exciting, recently I got an opportunity to attend a conference on Urban Food systems organised by ICLEI, South Asia in collaboration with Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Bank (WB). I feel that in this rapidly changing climate, fast paced life coupled with work and peer pressure, our health is getting compromised. There are growing concerns over health issues like diabetes, obesity and cancer. 

According to Dr Jayashree Todkar (jayatodkar@gmail.com), a renowned surgeon on Obesity and Diabetes (who spoke at the conference), India has the highest number of diabetic patients in the world and has the second largest population in childhood obesity. Obesity is one of the root causes of many of the diseases that we are facing. We can see that a lot of people are getting conscious about this and are demanding healthy food options. Consequently, we also see advertisements flooding all media, promoting so-called health foods, fitness apps, gadgets, exercises and variety of diet plans etc., that promise to make our lives healthy. Dr Todkar however recommended that eating local foods with nutritional balance is the key to good health, rather than giving up certain foods, or eating only one type of food, etc.

As far as health is concerned, as per Dr Todkar, a much bigger concern is 'nutritional illiteracy' among Indians. We should focus on eating all types of foods that are locally grown using sustainable practices, aiming for a nutritionally balanced diet, in keeping with our physique and our lifestyle. People will be able to make the right choices for their health and the environment if they understood the basics of what different foods 'give' us nutritionally and what are the paths taken and impacts produced by the different foods in reaching our plates.

While health is one's major concern, we also should think about a few other things in relation with food. There are clear linkages between our food production and distribution systems and the climate crisis. Feeding 7 billion (and eventually 10 billion) people to provide adequate nutrition in a world where food production systems everywhere are increasingly threatened by climate change impacts is the biggest challenge that the humanity is facing today.

So how do we make the right food choices that will help ourselves as well as help address the climate crisis? Many people are touting veganism as the answer to this question.

During the conference I had a brief discussion with Dr Todkar on veganism and its implications for nutrition as well as its relevance to climate change. She was deeply concerned on this issue and responded promptly to me. According to her, it is not right to promote vegetarianism i.e. having plant based diet or veganism which is a strict plant based diet that excludes all animal products i.e dairy as well as meat, as the only 'healthy' option. There can be some serious nutritional deficiencies in shifting to these food choices and these can adversely affect our health.

As per evolutionary evidence, human beings are herbivorous as well as carnivorous. Let's leave food habits associated with caste and religion out of this discussion. As per science a plant based/vegan diet is rich in fiber, full of antioxidants and multiple vitamins and minerals but lacks in rich source of protein and essential amino acids which are the building blocks of our body. These important building blocks can be sourced only through food stuffs that are originating from animals - milk, eggs, meat, etc.

According to Dr Priyadarshini Karve, the proponents of veganism dismiss the nutrition-related concerns saying that even the animals we eat are getting the proteins from plants, and therefore plants are the ultimate source of protein. This reasoning actually shows a total lack of understanding of biochemistry. It cannot however be denied that there are many diseases that are linked with meat-centric diets. However, our concerns should be focused on Indian food habits.

She further added, traditional Indian non-vegetarians do not have a 'meat-centric' diet. A traditional Indian nonvegetarian's annual meat intake is negligible compared to that of say an American meat eater. Dairy is a big component of a vegetarian diet, but most adults consume very little milk. They consume more processed milk products like curds and buttermilk and there are a number of health benefits associated with 'fermented' foods. Indians also tend to eat a lot of milk-based sweets and these should indeed by avoided due to ill-effects of sugar.

Dr Karve explained that as far as the link of meat and dairy based diets with climate change is concerned, yes, indeed it is true that the energy spend and productive land engaged in producing 1 kg of animal-based food is much more than 1 kg of plant-based food. However, this in itself is a 'false' comparison, especially in the context of traditional Indian diets. A traditional non-vegetarian may be consuming say 200-250 g of rice daily, but the consumption of dairy and meat together may be just about 500-700 g per week! So the right question to ask then is what is the carbon emission associated with my annual intake of rice Vs my annual intake of meat and dairy products. To find this answer, I need to look at not just the quantities but also the production and distribution processes of the various food items in my typical food platter. If you started doing this kind of an analysis, you will realise that one cannot generalise that plant based foods are low carbon! What if sitting in Pune, a person is daily eating basmati rice cultivated in energy and fertilizer intensive farms of Punjab, but the milk supply is coming from a traditional dairy farmer about 20 km away, who owns 2 buffalos that are 'free-range' (i.e., not being fed any industrially produced cattle feed)? 

According to Dr Karve, the culprit in the contribution of both agriculture and animal husbandry to climate change is 'industrialisation' of food production systems in general, and this definitely needs to be addressed on a war footing. This requires focusing on 'HOW' various food items reach our dinner plates rather than 'WHAT' are the food items on the dinner plate. You need to treat the disease, not kill the patient!

All this discussion made us realise that a lot of the statistics that is presented about health as well as climate impacts of meat and dairy based diets have emerged from the Western world. This statistics cannot be applied blindly to Asians in general, and Indians in particular, whose eating patterns are quite different. Of course, the data can be used as a cautionary signal against the increasingly westernised eating habits being acquired by urban Indians. 

In short, keeping an open mind about food, educating ourselves about our health and food production and distribution systems will serve us far better than putting blanket bans on some food types or jumping into the latest diet fads!

MUSINGS FROM PRIYADARSHINI KARVE: One and Only Solution to Climate Change?

I have absolutely no problem with people wanting to go vegan or whatever other food preferences they want for themselves, based on any moral, ethical or whatever reasons of their own. 

I have serious concerns about promoting 'veganism'  (or any single lifestyle change for that matter) as THE ULTIMATE and UNIVERSAL solution of climate change. 


The earth and its atmosphere is a complex system - both scientifically and socio-economically. Climate change is a complex problem - both scientifically and socio-economically. Every human culture is playing a different role in this complexity, some aspects of which are positive and some are negative. Recognition of climate change as a universal problem to be tackled by everyone is one thing. Demanding that everyone should address the problem using the same and single strategy is an entirely different thing. We need an array of actions to tackle this complex problem. Moderation in access to all sorts of resources, including food, is indeed a common thread in most solutions, but the specifics of that moderation required of different cultures will obviously have to be different.

We generally develop simplified models to understand the complex geological-biological world around us. Often analysis of data based on simplified models suggests one thing, but reality is much more complex. Total abstinence and bans have never solved any social or environmental problem in the past. On the other hand, there are many instances of unexpected disasters caused by such measures. From that perspective too, I have serious reservations against any measure that talks about total exclusion of something or total ban on anything. 


There is also another aspect to this. Even in the Western world, where veganism and curbs on industrial agriculture (which includes animal husbandry) will indeed have a significant positive impact in terms of climate change, I think that the fashion of projecting veganism as THE ultimate climate change solution has potentially dangerous consequences. It is interesting that most vocal supporters of veganism in the West are the rich and famous who otherwise live a very energy intensive lifestyle. So are they going vegan to eliminate the feeling of guilt about their mansions and yachts and private jets? Will going vegan then justify ramping up everyone's personal use of fossil energy?

I repeat, the same problem exists with any single action being projected as the ONE and ONLY solution of climate change. For example, going totally off fossil fuelled transport can be a personal choice, but it becomes problematic if that is recommended as the one and only prescription for the entire world to address the problem of climate change! Will it then be ok if I went everywhere on a bicycle but lived in an airconditioned mansion and ate nothing but meat??


It is admirable and good to feel passionate about a cause and to promote it with enthusiasm. However, I sincerely request my vegan friends to not fall into the trap of finding 'the single ultimate truth'! Truth is always relative and comes in hundred shades of grey! Same is the case with solutions to climate change.

My City My Responsibility - Glimpses of the National Conference on Urban Sustainability

I am super excited to share some of the highlights of the National Conference on Urban Sustainability, held at YASHADA, Pune on 27 April 2019. I am grateful to everyone for the great response, I am sure it was an enriching experience for you all too who attended the day long event.

A special thanks to our Guest of honor Sulakshana Mahajan, I had heard about her and her amazing work in Sustainability but actually got to listen to her for the first time and indeed it was enlightening. We are trying to introduce a new concept of inviting the guest to be a keynote listener and Dr Mahajan graciously obliged us through an apt conclusion of the conference.

I extend my thanks to all the experts and speakers coming all the way for the conference from different cities and states. Mr. Prasad Kokil (Aurangabad) Dr Anil Avhad (Mumbai) and Ms Neha Singh (who pitched in at the last moment) and all the INECC members (coming from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Bhubaneshwar, Bangalore, Pune and Mumbai) or actively participating in the conference. All the discussions were very thought provoking. Especially the sharing on SMART cities exposed and acknowledged that Pune is not the only SMART city that is facing the issue with prioritizing basic services. I appreciate the patience and acknowledge as well as the time and efforts taken by each and every presenter at the conference - both oral and poster. It was great that most of the papers that we received were on action oriented studies. This was very much in line with our philosophy of wanting to be part of the solutions keeping in mind the problems. We all know the problems, so rather than rehashing them, now its time to act in the right direction and move towards urban sustainability.

Thanks to all the exhibitors for displaying their products and creating a lively atmosphere in the conference. The idea was to start a dialogue among visitors and participants about sustainable lifestyle changes, and I think the exhibition provided the perfect setting for the same. 

The core purpose of this conference was to inform participants about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) framework, focusing on SDG 11 (making cities and communities Sustainable) and its connections with other SDGs, using Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) as a platform. This event was a part of a research project that I am working on where sensitizing the urban citizens about sustainability in various ways is the main objective.

With our Sustainably SMART Pune study project over the last three years we realized that conscious lifestyle change starts with me, as an individual. In order to achieve Sustainability we have to first change our attitude in order to change the society. ESD empowers us to take the responsibility for ourselves and make the change by taking the appropriate action. Using ESD we could spread awareness and sensitize urban citizens about responsible and conscious behavior. We used SDG 11 as our starting point since it directly targets cities and communities i.e urban citizens and tried to motivate them to emulate model behaviour of a responsible citizen. Through our interactions with citizens of Pune, over the last year or so, we charted down some actionable guidelines at three different levels, i.e individuals, community and governance, for each target under SDG 11. There are limited hard copies of the report, however we will circulate the softcopy in both English and Marathi soon through our Facebook page Citizens of Sustainable Pune. Last but not the least I deeply thank the supporters Engagement Global and funders German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development for enabling us to create an ecosystem of sustainable livelihoods and showing us the pathway to Urban Sustainability through ESD.

My City My Responsibility - Eco-friendly Lifestyle Part 2

As mentioned in the last blog, we are facing the global ecological deficit and Earth Overshoot day is the day which marks a calendar date when we have used more from nature than our planet can renew in a year.

The concept of Earth Overshoot day was initiated as a campaign to raise awareness about our continuous exploitation of the Earth's resources and its renewing capacity. As per the calculations done by Global Footprint Network, in 1970 we crossed the threshold and since then every year we are in a debt towards the Earth. If we are to continue with consumption-centric lifestyle we will require 1.7 Earths i.e practically one more planet to suffice our needs. If we see the past earth overshoot dates right from 1970 to 2018, i.e in the last 48 years the dates have been rapidly shifting from December to August which means that we will soon reach to a time when we will be deprived of some of the Earth's resources at global level if not all.
However, as a country and as a city we have the power to move this date backwards by undertaking small but effective steps now. We need to adopt a lifestyle that is minimalist. Its not about being a miser, its about discovering whats most important for us and adjusting our day to day activities based on this principle. 
By 2050, more and more people will be staying in urban areas, hence it is important for us to have a city that helps us manage our resources well. For instance, we should demand for better and safe roads with efficient public transport, so that we use less of individual vehicles to travel, which will in turn help saving on fossil fuels and lower carbon emissions. Air pollution problem caused majorly due to vehicular emissions will also be reduced. Another resource consumptive activity coupled with enormous carbon emissions is construction. Instead of developing haphazard buildings in every corner of the city, it is important to survey the need for housing demand and accordingly develop affordable housing with basic facilities. These houses can be built using materials that redue energy and water usage. There is a need of research on developing such innovative materials in this sector. Similarly waste minimization and management at the source is one of the most important ways to reduce our ecological footprint which will help us move the overshoot date ahead to an extent. Above all our attitude towards our resources should be just like the way we manage our finances. Otherwise soon we will be taxed for overusing our resources as well!
Individually, we can make a minimalist calendar, where in every month we can reduce or minimize use of our resources. For eg. Discovering the one thing that maximizes your electricity bill and trying to reduce the same by an alternative process or by minimizing usage will in turn reduce your energy consumption and save your money too.

Is it really difficult to change our habits and shift to sustainable living? 

There are many citizens in Pune city itself who are living a sustainable lifestyle. Lets see what has driven the change in them. 

Veena Godbole: I got introduced to her through Dr. Priyadarshini Karve. She's a middle-aged women who just does not allow any of her kitchen waste out of her house. She has developed a beautiful terrace garden by using her household wet waste and cultivates her own vegetables and fruits. Of course, it takes a lot of dedication and effort to undertake such an initiative. But we can start with one vegetable or fruit. 

We saw in earlier blogs that wet waste generated in our household is quite a lot, and it is very easy to reuse it in our own garden or potted plants. If all of us ensure that our kitchen waste should not go out of the house, I think there will be a time when we may fall short of wet waste, and will have to borrow it. Something like this happened with Veena, she had to tie up with the local vegetable vendor for more wet waste. 


So, its like hitting two birds with one stone.We are resolving the problem of wet waste management at our end by forming a closed loop system where the waste of one product, acts as source of nourishment for another product and the cycle goes on.

MUSINGS FROM PRIYADARSHINI KARVE: Environment = Trees?

For the last week or so we are all hearing boasts and political posturings about how many trees have NOT been cut in the floodplains of Yamuna (and therefore the environment there has not been harmed at all) and how many thousands of trees have been planted across the country (and therefore the environment of the country is well and duly protected). Today I would like to share some musings on these tall claims. 

For most urban people trees represent the environment. One of the most popular environment-focused activities of schools, factories, housing colonies, etc., is tree plantation. A few of them even go the full mile and take care of the planted trees till they grow big. The environmentalism of politicians, organisations, and corporations is vouched for in terms of the number of trees planted and nurtured by them. Last year, I met a young entrepreneur, who would undertake to establish and manage a tree plantation on your behalf for the right price, so that you can get the 'environment saviour' tag without yourself lifting a single finger! Right from the childhood anyone and everyone's 'environmental' message directed at me has been - DO NOT EVER cut down trees. I want to sincerely apologise to all these 'gurus' - I am sorry, but in spite of all your benevolent guidance, I have ended up in a business that actually advocates using wood and biomass for a variety of energy services! 

In case you have not noticed - trees beget more trees by spreading their seeds, and eventually die too! If you cut the branches of a tree, they will grow out again! What is the harm in taking out some biomass in various forms from a patch of green, as long as the green cover is maintained? On the other hand, if humans find that the patch of green is doing something for them, they will naturally take care of it. They don't have to be nature lovers to do that, they just need to know which side their bread is buttered on! 

Environment is all the ecosystem that we live in and are part of. This includes plants as well as micro-organisms and animals. Trees and tigers are the most 'eye catching' themes, but just these two IN ISOLATION do not make up 'environment'! It may surprise and even sadden those who spend a lot of effort and money on tree plantation drives to know that trees do not need all that support! Just fence and protect the patch of land you are determined to 'green' and allow nature to take over. In a very short time, you will find that the land will be naturally endowed with a rich variety of flora and fauna - far richer than what you could have achieved by planting specific fast growing trees in neat rows. Furthermore, once the ecosystem is established, if you removed the restrictions on human intervention, and lead people to discover the variety of services that the patch of land performs for them, they might even be motivated to use AND conserve it in the lang term. However, if you keep barking at them to 'do not touch the flowers', 'do not pluck the fruits', 'do not cut down the trees', 'do not fish in the pond', etc. etc. etc., they are going to be more inclined to do just that with no thought spared for conservation. 


So, my sincere request to everyone is - please drop the 'holy' aura around tree plantation! Planting any number of trees will NOT take away the widespread and long term adverse environmental impacts of your lifestyle, irrespective of how much 'religious fervour' you bring into the plantation drives! 

If you really want to 'protect the environment', re-examine the daily activities in your home and place of work/business through the lenses of sustainability and climate resilience. The global processes that allow us to indulge in your own extravagant and wasteful habits and practices are destroying millions of hectares of forests. Changing this lifestyle will go a much longer way to conserve environment than planting a hundred trees.

Innovative Disposals

A question to everyone from one of our readers...


One of our readers, Meera Rotti, has placed a very interesting and valid question for other fellow readers.



Q) If we have to buy pure groceries (or all the stuff- from groceries to cosmetics to handloom clothing) and pay the farmer/producer on fair-trade principle (without involving middle-men or dealers), we need to shell out at least 3 times more money than what we are paying now. So in order to be able to pay that much, we need to earn in that proportion and this, by my own experience, calls for a lifestyle that is resource and energy intensive (living in city and working in corporate industry). So is it that only the creamy-layer would be able to enjoy the benefits pure organic fair-trade produce and middle-class people like me wishing to access these products should start farming for self-sufficiency?

MUSINGS FROM PRIYADARSHINI KARVE: The problem in a nutshell!

So, here is the problem, in a nutshell. 

If we are to live the industrial/urban lifestyle of the developed countries and strive for equality in the world, we can sustain not more than 1.5 billion people. Currently we are 7 billion people, and are headed towards a final count of 10 billion. None of the previous lifestyles that we have transitioned through so far have the carrying capacity for so many people. I am aware that there are a number of environmental movements today advocating going back to 'traditional' ways of life, by rejecting all fruits of industrial progress. I am sorry, but this is not going to solve the problem at all, even if each and every human being decided to take this path. In other words, we cannot maintain status quo and anyone who preaches going back to previous lifestyles as the solution is living in a fool's paradise. 

What I have outlined above is a 'problem' assuming that we do want all humans to enjoy all possible comforts of life equally. We may decide not to believe in the principle of equality and accept that it is all right to have a growing social and economic divide between groups of humans. In that case, we can keep pushing the envelop of the industrial/urban life style so that at least some lucky (or ruthless and cunning!) individuals will be able to enjoy prosperity.

The problem with this approach is that if about 20% people are enjoying all the fruits of a civilisation fueled by the physical and intellectual labour of the remaining 80% people, the 80% "GIVERS" are not going to just be passive and allow the "TAKERS" to perpetually exploit them. The social and economic stresses will keep piling up until finally the tension will reach the catastrophic limit and the fabric of human civilisation may tear up into mere tatters. So this path is sure to lead to devastating destruction. In fact, when the industrial/urban society will have totally collapsed, all surviving humans would indeed be on equal footing - they all will be equally resource poor and undergoing equal hardships! If you are surrounded by barren desert, it doesn't matter whether you have a fat bank balance or not, you will still face the same struggle as the beggar with no bank account at all. So there is prudence in believing in and striving for equality of humans in relatively prosperous contentment!  

Climate change and its potential impacts add another dimension to this problem. 

Climate change in the broadest sense of the word includes all changes that happen in the composition of the earth's atmosphere. The earth's climate has always changed, through a variety of causes, and has always impacted life on the planet. In fact, life became possible on this planet because its climate changed in very unique ways - something that has not been observed on any other planet so far. Irrespective of how and why it is caused, climate change irrevocably changes the geographical distribution as well as limits of availability/accessibility of various resources required to 'fuel' the human settlement at a particular location. Climate change can therefore hugely mess up all our calculations of the numbers of limiting population sizes for specific lifestyles, and can have a potentially adverse impact on any 'rescue' strategy we may come up with. Therefore we must not make the mistake of ignoring climate change. 

This is a real problem - and an existential problem - but only for us, humans. We need to try and find our way around it for the survival of our species - not to 'save the planet' or 'to protect the environment' or any such lofty goal. The Earth has been in existence for more than 4.5 billion years, and will continue to exist as long as our sun is burning, which is another 5 billion years or so. During the past 4.5 billion years, many species have evolved, and gone extinct on this planet. Even in the Genus Homo (to which we belong) there have been many species before us, and the process of evolution is relentlessly on, albeit at a very very slow pace. If the human civilisation collapses and fades away, the earth will continue to be there, and life in some form or other will continue to thrive on it. May be a few billion years in the future some other species will try to solve the mystery of our extinction as we today struggle with trying to understand how and why the dinosaurs went into extinction!

MUSINGS FROM PRIYADARSHINI KARVE: Who is the culprit?

I am writing this week's piece as the horrifying stories of the havoc caused by the earthquake in Nepal and Northern parts of India are still unfolding. 

The Himalayas are relatively young mountains and their height is still growing. This mountain range is actually a 'fold' formed as the plate of the Indian subcontinent is pushing under the plate of China. As a result this entire area is and will remain prone to earthquakes. Minor tremors is a routine matter in this region, but there have been strong earthquakes too occasionally. In fact if you consider the total area of Pakistan, North India, China, Bhutan, and Nepal, strong earthquakes with devastating effects have occurred quite frequently in this region.  In view of this always eminent danger of major earthquakes, what precautions have been taken by the people or the governments in this region? Forget about the people living in the region, how prepared/informed are we in the rest of India, when we flock to Nepal as tourists and expect/demand certain amenities and conveniences? 

The earthquake has indeed caused a widespread damage to historic monuments, and also impacted the mountaineers. But the large number of victims is primarily due to collapsing concrete buildings. Who then is the culprit? The earthquake, or the short sighted policies that did not impose appropriate building codes to ensure earthquake proofing? 

I have visited Nepal a few times over the last few years in connection with my work, and every time the changes have been disturbing - I see more shops, narrower roads, more multi-stories buildings every time, and more tourists (mostly Indians - the European tourists typically come to Nepal to 'rough it' and avoid the urban 'comforts' as much as possible) demanding even more of the same. I just do not get the logic of going to a breathtakingly beautiful country and spend most time shopping and gambling (although I think the casinos were closed down last year)! So in a way, WE are all responsible for the tragedy that has struck Nepal, by encouraging the cities and towns in this geologically sensitive zone to become congested urban sprawls in order to serve us as tourists. 

This once again underlines the point that I have been trying to drive home over the last few weeks - the root cause of many if not all of our problems today is to be found in the industrial/urban life style that we, as a civilisation, have identified as THE ideal, THE Utopia, to be achieved by every community, in every corner of the globe.

Earth Day - What is it?

We all know 5th June is celebrated as World Environment Day, but what is Earth Day all about?

How did Earth Day evolve?
In 1970, 20 million Americans took to the streets to spread the message of environmental awareness, and in the process created the first ever Earth Day. The campaign led to remarkable change — generating momentum for the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency and the passing of the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act and the Endangered Species Act. The brainchild of the late Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson, Earth Day 1970 garnered bipartisan support and is widely considered to be the beginning of the environmental movement. Earth Day 2015 includes a cleanup Great Wall of China beach litter removal. and an attempt to protect 25,000 acres of rain forest in Indonesia.

The motto of Earth Day is "100% Renewable" — What does it mean?
Earth Day Network is calling on cities to go 100% renewable by 2050. We want all of our consumed energy to be created by renewable energy sources– sun, wind and water!
Why do we need 100% renewable?
1 billion people still live on less than $1.25 per day and those most affected by climate change are low-income or marginalized populations. These trends will only get worse if we don’t stop misusing the planet. Moving towards a 100% renewable world is possible, but only in a world where all countries commit to a low carbon future. We have the technology. Now we need the political will to begin this change.
Over the past 20 years, there have been a series of failed attempts to create an effective international treaty to mitigate climate change. In 1997, the UN passed the Kyoto Protocol, the first major international agreement. Unfortunately, the US—one of the world’s top polluters—failed to ratify the treaty. Since then, the countless efforts to come to an agreement—Rio, Copenhagen— have all ended in failure.
The next summit – COP21- in Paris- is scheduled later this year; and this time we cannot fail. We need a universal climate agreement  that limits global warming to 2°C. We must come together to demand climate action from our leaders!
Why 2°C? There is consensus within the scientific community that greenhouse gases emissions that increase global temperatures beyond 2°C will irreversibly alter climatic regions all over the world, making fierce natural weather phenomena a daily occurrence. Let’s make 2015 the year we reverse this trend, and call on civic leaders to commit to powering our cities with 100% renewable technology.
Moving to renewable energy has the potential to be cost-effective and transform the way we interact with our environment. Divestment from fossil fuels, green buildings, and sustainable cities must drive this change.
We have to start from the bottom up– show our representatives that we will lead where they cannot. This starts in your city.
Earth Day 2015: Let us pledge to save the Tiger, Natural Resources and Biodiversity, our environment, our surroundings, our cities, our future!
2015 – Earth Day’s 45th anniversary – could be the most important year in environmental history. It’s Our Turn to Lead. Get the conversation started on making your city 100% renewable and be part of the movement on April 22, Earth Day.
